This extreme cold could be seen as a negative thing by most southern europeans but it is something you need to experience to fully understand the silences in Finnish culture. The feeling of coping with this cold (a feeling of inner power) is an extremely spiritual experience. Two persons that go through it together need not say a word to convey what is on their minds: "Sisu" - A word that defines the main character of Finns. It defines the guts and courage needed to live under these extreme conditions and the liberation within them. In the same way the air feels pure in here there is something that purifies your soul... no words needed.
